Lucca Heritage Retreat is at Via del Gallo 15, on a quiet street in the old town, inside the walls. Santa Maria dei Servi is 61 metres away, Piazza Napoleone 210 metres and Piazza dell'Anfiteatro 380 metres, with San Michele in Foro a short walk off.
Via del Gallo 15, 55100 Lucca, Italia
Lucca station, in Piazza Ricasoli just outside the walls, is 490 metres away: you enter the centre through Porta San Pietro. From Pisa airport, 18 km away, the Pisamover reaches Pisa Centrale in about five minutes, and regional trains to Lucca take 25 to 35 minutes; Autolinee Toscane buses also run between Pisa and Lucca, and a taxi takes about half an hour. From Florence, regional trains leave Santa Maria Novella roughly hourly and take around 1 hour 20 minutes.
By car, leave the A11 at Lucca Est or Lucca Ovest. Almost the whole centre is a limited traffic zone, active around the clock, and the hotel has no parking, so contact the property before arrival. Paid public car parks include Carducci and Palatucci outside the walls, Mazzini and Piazzale Verdi inside.

San Michele in Foro stands on the Roman forum, its Pisan Romanesque facade rising in four tiers of loggias. The Guinigi Tower, 44 metres high, has holm oaks at the top, and Piazza dell'Anfiteatro keeps the oval of the Roman amphitheatre. The Cathedral of San Martino holds the tomb of Ilaria del Carretto by Jacopo della Quercia, and the Puccini Museum occupies the composer's birthplace.
The 4.2 km of walls make a tree-lined walk, and bikes are easy to hire. Lucca fills up for Comics & Games, the Summer Festival and the Luminara on 13 September, so book early. Pisa, the villas of Marlia and Torrigiani and the Garfagnana make easy day trips.
